Reference standard

The site is built to meet WCAG 2.1 at level AA, the technical reference adopted in Brazil for digital accessibility, in line with article 63 of the Brazilian Inclusion Act (Law 13.146/2015).

We have deliberately chosen not to use accessibility overlay plugins. That kind of widget does not fix the underlying code and tends to get in the way of screen readers and keyboard navigation. Accessibility here lives in the code itself.

What is already in place

Navigation and keyboard

  • A skip link straight to the content, the first item when navigating by keyboard
  • Every interactive element can be reached by keyboard, with a visible focus ring
  • The mobile menu closes with the Esc key and returns focus to the button that opened it
  • Touch targets of at least 44 by 44 pixels
  • Landmark structure (header, navigation, main content and footer) for direct jumps

Reading and understanding

  • Heading hierarchy without skipped levels, so headings can be used to navigate
  • Every informative image has alternative text; decorative ones are hidden from reading
  • Form fields with an associated label and an error message that is announced
  • The language of each page is declared in the markup, and a language selector in the header links each page to its counterpart
  • Text in resizable type, with no broken layout up to 200 per cent zoom

Colour and motion

  • Minimum text contrast of 4.5:1, checked automatically at every publication
  • No information is conveyed by colour alone
  • Optional dark mode, with the choice saved in the browser
  • Animation switched off for anyone who has set reduced motion in their system
  • Nothing flashes, spins without control or plays sound automatically

Third-party content

  • The map only loads when you ask for it, on a click - no automatic connection to an external service
  • There is no embedded PDF, video or audio that would require captions or audio description

What has not been verified yet

The automated check runs at every publication and covers structure, labels, contrast and heading hierarchy. It does not replace testing with people using a screen reader day to day - that testing has not been done with real users yet, and it is the next step.

The English version is a translation of the Portuguese site and has not yet been reviewed by a native speaker using assistive technology.

We do not offer Brazilian Sign Language (Libras) interpretation on the site. Deaf patients who prefer to be seen in Libras can let us know when booking so we can agree the best way to communicate at the appointment.

Found a barrier?

If any part of the site stopped you or made it harder to do what you wanted, please tell us. Describe the page, what you were trying to do and, if you can, the browser and assistive technology you use. We reply within one business day and treat the report as a priority fix.
